E Patrick Johnson Wins Distinguished Scholar Award

E Patrick 168x210.jpgEvanston, IL—The Department of African American Studies is thrilled to announce that the National Communication Association (NCA) has selected E. Patrick Johnson, Dean of the School of Communication and Annenberg University Professor of Performance Studies and African American Studies, as the 2021 recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award.

Given annually, the NCA Distinguished Scholar Award is the association’s highest accolade. It honors a lifetime of scholarly achievement in the study of human communication. Recipients are selected by their peers to showcase the best of the Communication discipline. Dr. Johnson’s work examines the intersection of gender, sexuality, race, and religion with focuses on Black gay men of the U.S. South and Black Queer Southern women.
